About Us

Mpanshya Camp and Trails is an eco-campsite situated in the Flamponje Community Forest Area and is run by the local community. The campsite developed along side a regenerative grazing project taking place in the valleys and hills around the 1300m high Flamponje Mountain. All proceeds go to supporting the community and into securing the integrity of the forest ecosystem.

The surrounding area offers access to biking and hiking trails, mountain climbing, birdwatching and rock-climbing. Fishing on the nearby fishponds and visits to the Mpanshya Communal Herd, a 500+ head cattle herd owned by 45 owners and following a landscape restoration plan, can be arranged.

Situated in Rufunsa District of Zambia and nestled in the Chikwenya valley, home of the seasonal and elusive African Pitta bird, this area offers visitors a unique plunge into one of Lusaka Province’s more remote rural districts. The camp is situated 170 kms or +/- 3hours away from Lusaka, only a few kilometres off the Great East Road. Visit us for a memorable experience!

Eco Campsite

Our eco-campsite provides an ideal setting for those looking to reconnect with the nature. We have hot showers and flush toilets, with outside wash basins and running water from a nearby spring. Three shady “insakas” (gazebos) help with shade and rain cover in the wet season.

Mpanshya Camp and Trails encourages visitors to take only memories and leave nothing but footprints.

By promoting regenerative tourism, Mpanshya Camp and Trails is committed to revitalizing the local environment and community. Visitors are encouraged to participate in sustainable practices that support both the natural surroundings and local livelihoods, ensuring that the beauty of this region is preserved for future generations.
